Students Must Be 7 Years Or Older To Take Private Lessons
Private lessons students must be at least 7 years old. We do not offer private lessons for students that are younger than 7, as it is not beneficial for their progression. Private lessons are designed for older students working on more complex skills that require more one-on-one explanation. Younger students are unable to understand more specific and advanced concepts, and instead benefit from consistent repetition and watching other students. If you are looking to increase the speed of progression, you should register your child for multiple group classes, instead of just once a week. Children progress faster with multiple classes each week, as shorter gaps between lessons help improve muscle memory and flexibility, which are key for developing skills. Younger students particularly benefit from more frequent group classes, and it is a more cost-effective option for parents.
As students get older, they encounter a variety of different skills, and their individual needs may vary. Private lessons are for older students with more specific goals for other sports such as cheerleading or dance. When students are younger there are not as many skills, and the skills required for cheerleading and dance are the same fundamentals that are worked on in a class setting. If your child is in a group class and they are not working on the skills that you are looking for, that is most likely because they do not yet possess the fundamentals required for that skill and that should be discussed with your coach. Coaches are available before or after class, to help point out to you the fundamentals that are required before progressing to more advanced skills. Mastering those fundamentals required can be achieved faster through attending class multiple times a week.
If a younger student struggles with class structure and needs more focus, private lessons are not the solution. The unstructured environment of private lessons will actually worsen the issue. Younger students learn best in group activities, where they gain the focus and disciple needed for these skills. If one of our coaches feels that a student can not handle a structured group class, then they need to be in a younger class or may not be ready for our programs at this time, and we would be happy to point you in the right direction of a different program that might be able to accommodate that.
